The Marshall Plan, officially known as the European Recovery Program, was a landmark U.S.-led effort to rebuild Western Europe after World War II. Between 1948 and 1951, it provided more than $13 billion in aid — equivalent to over $150 billion today — to 16 countries, helping restore infrastructure, modernize industry, and curb the spread of communism across the region.
